Hello, Laura J. Lawson
Memphis, 200"x 80", acrylic ink on polypropylene and paper, 2016
Here is what Laura says her work is about:
Lawson's work explores the history and character of place, and what it means to have one's identity wrapped up in it. Her current paintings give the viewer an aerial view built from the topographical qualities of ink on translucent plastic. Specific indicators of place are represented through color and mapping, but the immersive experience of these installations take one out of the cartographer's chair and into the vastness of Earth itself.
