Nasty Women Memphis Art Exhibition

CALLING ALL NASTY WOMEN ARTISTS:
This is the Memphis exhibit of the Nasty Women Exhibition taking place in Queens, NYC.  We are a group exhibition that serves to demonstrate solidarity among artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman in the face of threats to roll back women’s rights, individual rights, and reproductive rights. Our exhibit also serves as a fundraiser to support organizations defending these rights and to echo the platform for organization after the Trump Presidential Inauguration in January.

WHO DO WE WANT INVOLVED?
Nasty Women Artists of all ages, races, religions, sexes, sexual orientations, gender or non-gender identifications, economic backgrounds, immigrants and non-immigrants.  The subject matter is up to the artist who identifies as, or supports a Nasty Woman.

THE EXHIBITS IN THE MEMPHIS SHOW WILL BE SELECTED FROM ENTRIES:
Please enter your work in the NASTY WOMEN Memphis exhibit to appear in the show by Friday, January 27, 2017.

THIS EXHIBITION IS A FUNDRAISER:
The works in this exhibition will be available for sale – 50% of the sale will go to Planned Parenthood and exhibit expenses not covered by donated supplies, with the other 50% to be paid to the artist.
We ask you price your work between $20 – $200. We want to keep the prices very affordable so that many many people in attendance feel they are able to purchase one or multiple pieces in support of Planned Parenthood.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SELL YOUR WORK:
We will still accept it because we understand how valuable it is to show your work and participate in solidarity with other Nasty Women.  We will mark your work NFS, however we ask that you then either:
  • donate a second work that can be sold
  • make a $10 donation to the NASTY WOMEN Memphis exhibit after acceptance and upon drop-off, and an additional donation yourself to Planned Parenthood

INSTALLATION PLAN:
On one of the main walls of the Marshall Arts space we will construct large letters to spell out NASTY WOMEN. They will be framed out with wood and covered with a strong plastic mesh or wire from which some of the smaller and lighter artworks will be hung.  The letters will dramatically create a NASTY WOMEN monument.
Each work will represent its own unique voice while being unified by the overall installation. It is the hope that this installation will create a strong visual statement of solidarity.
2D & 3D WORK (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, etc.):
– All 2D and 3D work must arrive wired and READY TO HANG/INSTALL
– For 2D pieces, the minimum and maximum size considered is 12″ x 12″ to 60″ x 60″.  Please email us for available space for larger works.
VIDEO:
We would like to include video for those of you who are video artists through small monitors and projection. Please be aware that depending on how many video entries we receive we may have to loop multiple works on one monitor/projection. We will of course provide the necessary information to the audience about authorship of each piece.
SOUND:
Because of the large amount of those participating sound most likely will be presented on headphones. But please contact the curatorial team to discuss specifics if you have alternate ideas.
TEXT:
We welcome writers and text artists to participate!  We will include your written work in a bound book for viewing and ask that you provide a nicely printed and framed version of your poem or other written work for sale at the event.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
Submission Forms must be received by Friday, January 27, 2017, by completing the web form, using the SUBMIT ENTRY link at the top of each page.
