Watercolor for Beginners: Color and Technique with Nancy Cheairs

Watercolor is a lively medium that requires a different touch than acrylic or oil painting. In this class we wille xplore the basics of watercolor and methods for achieving its beautiful sparkle and vibrant color. Students will learn how to execute flat, graded and variegated washes, explore brush work, wet in wet techniques, glazing and learn about color mixing using a limited palette. Subject matter will vary from working through direct observation to copying watercolor masters. All materials are included. Beginner and intermediate students will work in the same classroom. Class limit 8.

Drawing and Painting the Figure with Nancy Cheairs

Strong composition, learning to see the big shapes and planes within the figure, value, color and proportion will be emphasized in this class. The first two classes will focus on drawing and exploring the basic proportions of the figure. The class will work from a live model, and depending on the exercise, the model will be nude or clothed. A materials list will be provided.

Collage: Honing Your Design Skills with Susan Maakestad

In this class students will explore the fine art of collage, working directly with cut papers to create a variety of design options. The students will work with a variety of black and white media such as acrylic paint, ink, watercolor, graphite, and photographs to create a series of work in a 9 x 12 format. Crucial two-dimensional design skills will be honed and creative decision making skills will be developed. In addition to being a popular contemporary art medium, collage is a great sketching tool. Open to all levels. 

Intro to Bookmaking with Sunny Montgomery

This class will introduce you to basic book binding techniques, tools and materials. Students will leave the class with several handmade, one-of-a-kind books suitable for journaling, sketchbookery or gift giving and the knowledge to continue book making on their own. 

Oil Painting from Sketches and Photographs with Sunny Montgomery

Students will work on oil painting techniques while using photographs or sketches as source material. New students will learn the basics of oil painting as more experienced painters continue to develop and refine their skills. Materials, color mixing, and composition will be discussed throughout this six-session exploration of a classic medium

Beginning Acrylic Painting Techniques with Melissa Dunn

Essential painting techniques like building grounds, layering wash
es and glazes, dry brushing, blending and mark making all lend themselves to the ease and versatility of acrylic paint. The fundamentals of color theory will also be a focus. This course is a great place to start for the beginner and an excellent refresher for the more experienced student.
