Memphis College of Art Announces 2014 Summer Art Camp Showcase

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis College of Art’s 2014 Summer Art Camp Showcase will be on view July 19–27 in the Rust Hall Main Gallery. A closing reception is scheduled forSunday, July 27 from 2–4 p.m. Gallery hours for Rust Hall are 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m.–4:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon–4 p.m. on Sundays.

The exhibition is comprised of artwork in multiple media made by the students attending MCA’s Summer Camp sessions. “This is one of my favorite exhibitions each year,” said Remy Miller, MCA’s dean and vice president of academic affairs. “That the show is so much fun to look at is a measure of the joy that goes into it and that can only exist when the kids are working with people that are caring, sympathetic, helpful and smart.”

MCA offers a wide variety of summer camp sessions, ranging from Clay Dinosaurs to Metal Sculpture, for students in grades K–12. During the school year, budding artists can also attend Saturday School sessions, which will begin September 27. More information on art programs for youth and teens can be found on the Memphis College of Art website or by contacting Community Education at 901-272-5142.
