Gwendolyn Barnes will make a bold mark on the Memphis art scene on Saturday, October 12, with a solo show of her paintings. The opening, held from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, will also feature creative efforts in dance and music with performances by Kristin Hayeslip and Christie Fair . The art opening will be held in the Candy Factory Underground at 25 Martin Luther King Blvd. (formerly Linden) at Wagner Place. Barnes’ work is large scale and often involves nudes, animal skulls, and other symbols. An art student at the University of Memphis, she describes the artworks as a means of provoking exciting and sometimes dually frightening thoughts about the nature of living and transcending.” The show will be on display through October 19.
