Overwhelming Captivations at Hyde Gallery, 477 South Main, runs May 31 through June 14. Gallery hours are Wednesday - Saturday 12 - 5pm.

An opening reception will be held during Trolley Night on Friday, May 31 from 6 to 9 pm at the Hyde Gallery. There will be dance, performance, music, and multimedia installations as well as painting and sculpture.

Don't miss this event! Pyramid Dance Troupe under the direction of Sadiia Laam is scheduled to perform at the opening.

Overwhelming Captivations, an exhibition sponsored by Memphis of College of Art with Featherjett Fine Arts of Nashville and juried by Robert Hollingsworth of David Lusk Gallery, features work from local and regional artists exploring the ideas of sin, secrecy and obsession. The show is a visual conversation through works of varied and contrasting materials illustrating the ideas of being human and emotionally overcome by ephemeral forces. Themes within the show are broad, sometimes confronting actual psychological problems, such as obsessive-compulsive disorders, anxiety and fear - and touching on ideas of addiction, lust, anger, gluttony, sloth, envy, greed or any other reference to the concept of obsession.
