Michael Bogel at Material

by - January 10, 2013

Material is excited to announce its ninetieth exhibition, Flora, Fauna & Dwellings, Mountains, Rivers, & Seas: The Drawings of Michael Bogle.

The show will run for one night only on Friday, January 11, 2013 with an opening reception from 6-8 pm.

Material is located at 2553 Broad Avenue. Parking is available on both the north and south sides of Broad Avenue.
The exhibition is organized and sponsored by local artist Libby Pace-Humphries who has been friends with Michael Bogle.  They have been planning this show for a number of years now.

Michael Bogle was born on Christmas day in 1970 in Memphis.  He now resides in Lexington, Tennessee where he spends most of his free time working on drawings.

When asked about Michael Bogle’s artwork, his brother uses the phrase, “beauty in simplicity.”  While the work is elaborate with its saturated colors and intricate patterns that fill the pages, the simplicity exists in the pure motivation that creates the drawings.  The 42-year-old, autistic Michael Bogle spends his free time putting his favorite sights to paper.  Working mostly from photographs, he emphasizes atmosphere that moves us through simple scenery.  When asked to title his drawings the outcome is often terse and matter of fact.  “Japanese house, flowers, and path” for example, stated as the obvious.
