Beth Edwards has curated an Alumni Invitation that is currently on view (the Opening reception is Thursday, see info below) at the Memphis College of Art. Edwards is a Painting Professor at the University of Memphis. Obviously, a competing institution. Now, if I were Beth Edwards and I were asked to curate an exhibition at a competing institution of alumni work from that institution, I would be sure to put together a terrible representation of work. I would do this to ensure that prospective students would be less likely to attend MCA and go to consider the University of Memphis instead.
Don't forget about the Elizabeth Condon lecture immediately following these openings at MCA.

From the Press Release:
In the Rust Hall Main Gallery (Overton Park) will be the 2012 Alumni Invitational Exhibition. This exhibition is curated by Beth Edwards, painting professor at the University of Memphis, and will feature hand-picked works from MCA alumni over a span of decades. The show runs through Nov. 4, and the opening reception is on Thursday, Oct. 11, 5–7 p.m.
“Upon looking at the work that I selected for this show, I was struck by how much of the work peripherally or directly concerns the position of nature at the hands of man and nature’s resultant vulnerability,” said Edwards in her juror statement, going on to describe the natural world themes present in the Invitational’s pieces.
Also, in the Rust Hall Alumni Gallery (Overton Park) will be an exhibit by MCA alumna and painter Janice Albertine. This show also runs through Nov. 4, and the opening reception is on Thursday, Oct. 11, 5–7 p.m.
In the Rust Hall Lower Gallery (Overton Park) will be a special selection of student work from the Sculpture Department. This show also runs through Nov. 4.
